City of Madras Councilor {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The members of a City Council supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Councilors pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter.Madras City Councilors are elected at large. Voters are asked to vote for a number of candidates equal to the number of open seats. They serve for a 4-year term (unless they are filling out a partial term) and are elected on a nonpartisan basis. In most cities, the City Councilors are unpaid.

Transportation & traffic issues including parking downtown & clear vision areas on corners there have been several accidents. Working with existing & new businesses & helping them thrive. Development of the city including adding new buildings with additional square footage to add to the tax base & allow the Urban Renewal District to renovate existing buildings & bring new business & new buildings. EDCO recently hired someone to help with economic development & we haven’t had this direct help in several years. With my experience in Planning Dept, Building & Code Enforcement I would like to work with the Mayor, City Council, State, County & other agencies & listening to all citizens of Madras to make our city safe and a great place to live.
I am interested in all aspects and duties of City Council because there are lots of different parts that make City Council run smoothly. Including budgeting, Community Development, reviewing and rewriting codes. Working closely with all employees that work for the City of Madras, The Mayor and Council to make the City a better place for all and hopefully with all the citizens input.
The City has some projects that were on the Transportation plan that were roads and other improvements that needed to be addressed. I believe the city is consistently looking for grants to help fund projects. I also know that The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) for the top 2 or 3 most important projects we need completed and ODOT will try and get funds to help assist.
