Personal Biography I am a lifelong Kansan and have lived in Leavenworth County for 18 years. My professional background was in the telecommunications industry where I held numerous customer service and operations positions until I retired in 2020. Positions included Manager-Wholesale Markets; Manager-Broadband Maintenance Center; and Manager-Internal Network.
Education I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resource Management; and an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts.
Community/Public Service I am currently serving as President, Rural Leavenworth Inc., a non-profit, non-partisan citizens advocacy organization; Treasurer, League of Women Voters of Leavenworth County; and 2nd Vice President, Kansas Silver Haired Legislature. I also volunteer at Home Works USA, a tiny home community for teens aging out of foster care.
There is a need to address infrastructure, i.e., water, sewers, etc., to attract economic development and support residential growth. Economic development is a priority because it will increase revenue to offset the property tax burden on residential homeowners. Infrastructure for residential growth is important to encourage growth in and near cities and prevent environmental issues. Existing infrastructure in poor condition is also a priority because it is a safety hazard and will be more costly if repairs are deferred. I support the countywide transportation plan which identified and prioritized specific projects that improve safety, traffic flow, and support economic development. I also support the proposed utilities commission that will identify needs, potential solutions and funding sources. Funding options should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to consider public/private partnerships, grants, bonds, sales tax and/or other funding mechanisms.
Employment can be increased by attracting new businesses, expanding internet access and public transportation options. New businesses provide jobs; expanding internet opens the door for more work-from-home opportunities; and public transportation gives people more options on getting to/from work. Additionally, employers can offer internships, flexible work schedules, part-time positions, on-the-job training, signing bonuses for a term commitment, or reimbursement for tuition.
All departments that I have personally interacted with are effective. The provision of administrative services is most effective because processes are well defined, personnel are professional and focused on serving citizens. I have been involved with the elections as an election worker and supervising judge and am impressed with how effective the process is, i.e., training, set-up, instruction manual, coordination, how fast results are posted, post-election audit, and the canvass.
