Martin County Commissioner District 1

The County Commission is comprised of five members, elected to a four-year term by voters. Exercising their legislative powers, the County Commission adopts ordinances (local laws) and resolutions to establish policies and programs to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of Martin County residents. Biographical Information

Do you support the purchase of lands for conservation through the ½ cent sales tax referendum?

Through the Comprehensive Plan and existing Land Development Regulations, most wetlands in Martin County are protected. If elected, would you stand by these regulations?

If elected, would you uphold the existing urban services district boundaries? What would compel you to support moving them or creating new ones?

In your opinion, what is the most underutilized county asset that needs attention and could be leveraged over the short term for increased jobs and economic development?

I do not support moving the boundaries of urban services districts. The only exception I would ever consider would be lands directly bordering the USB. Those rare exceptions would need to be supported by the residents of neighboring precincts and provide a significant benefit to the County. In these and other exceptional cases, Developers should pay a surcharge over and above regular impact fees.
The County Commission should encourage local businesses to develop a solid work ethic in our youth through summer part-time and summer employment, from entry-level manual routine tasks to paid internships that require higher-level cognitive routine and nonroutine tasks.

Developing solutions for Homelessness requires close collaboration of the Commission with law enforcement, local and state social service agencies, and private charitable nonprofits. The objective must never be to saturate communities with halfway houses but to provide the homeless a hand up and equip them to self-support.
