I have 47 years experience as a Registered Nurse, providing service to people in collaboration and cooperation with other healthcare professionals. I spent the last 13 years working for the State of Michigan with unwavering dedication to serving the elderly and vulnerable residents in nursing homes, providing on site visits to ensure the well-being and safety of the most vulnerable who were unable to speak for themselves. I have also volunteered to represent Thetford Township on the Clio Area Parks and Recreation Board and the Clio Area Library Board.
I have a deep connection to Thetford Township; I have spent most of my life in Thetford Township and live on land that has been in my family since 1901. I want this township to remain a haven for outdoor activities and family values. In office, I want to ensure parks and nature centers are inviting and accessible to anyone who visits. I want Thetford Township to be a place for people who want to live a slower paced life. I want to encourage sustainable foraging and harvesting of plants and animals. I want to make sure our parks stay clean.
I would be available to listen to constituents and respect the opinions of others. I want to work together with other board members for harmonious meetings to achieve all agenda items. I recognize that everyone has a different lived experience, and acknowledge that I might not make everyone happy, but I can ensure everyone will be heard and treated with dignity.
I am willing to take an oath to garner public trust, but only if steps are outlined for what would happen if someone failed to uphold the oath, or how someone can report wrongdoings without being punished themselves. The oath is only important if the consequences of not following the oath are understood by the parties involved.
I don’t like making decisions without input from others and carefully weighing all options. I can acknowledge when I don’t know something, I seek insight and education from trusted experts. My family has committed to and raised me in an environment of service. My father served in the army in the WW2 era, my husband, son and daughter-in-law all served in the Marine Corps, my uncle, Lyle Harmon was the township treasurer, and my great grandmother, Nina Harmon was the township clerk in the 1930s.
