Biographical Information

As a County Commissioner, which boards would you want to serve on and why?

As a County Commissioner, in a very diverse county, what is your plan for inclusive representation?

As a Commissioner, you will have responsibility to manage financial resources of the citizens, as well as those of special voter-approved taxes. Do you propose/support any improvements to communication, transparency, and/or reporting?

Sadly, we are in an era of significant trust issues in public representation, do you believe that elected officials should take an oath to abide by a formal ethics agreement: specifically with regard to behavior, conflict of interest, and fiduciary responsibility? Why or why not?

Open question: What would you like voters to know about you (as a public representative)?

Education I am a 1995 graduate of Davison High School.
Experience I have spent 28 years with Davison - Richfield Fire Department, 20 years in leadership positions, and the last five as Full Time Fire Chief. I also spent 13 years working for the Davison Department of Public Works as a heavy equipment operator, with many years of experience in private sector heavy construction as well.
Community Involvement I am the most recent past president of the Genesee County Association of Fire Chiefs and have served the past four years on the Genesee County 911 Advisory Board. As a firefighter I am heavily involved in many community events throughout each year.
Campaign Message I will bring leadership to the Board of Commissioners and fight to protect our out-county courts, defend and enhance public safety, fight for veterans and seniors, fight wasteful spending, and put our tax dollars to work for the 9th District with integrity, transparency and tireless commitment.
Endorsements Paul Clolinger, President FOP Arrowhead Lodge #126
I will be open to any and all assigned duties, however, I have a particular interest in the 911 Consortium, Public Works Committee and Government Operations Committee. As a public safety professional, I have had the honor of working alongside some of the finest firefighters, police officers, dispatchers, and EMS personnel you’ll find anywhere, and I believe I have a unique perspective on the issues facing our communities regarding public safety. I also firmly believe that my background in construction and public works, as well as my over 20 years of leadership experience can be very valuable in moving our county forward with infrastructure repairs and upgrades.
As I’ve always practiced in my professional life, as well as at home with my wife and children, everyone has a voice and a right to have it heard. It doesn’t matter if you live in Genesee, Davison, Flint, or Otter Lake, my phone is always on, and my door is always open. I have served our communities for over 28 years, and I can tell you two things I’ll never fail to do, listen and give you an honest answer. We may be diverse by some metrics but there is one thing we all share; we all live in Genesee County and every citizen and community must rely on each other for support.
All reforms that improve transparency and fiscal accountability must be explored and implemented. I manage a taxpayer-funded budget, albeit on a much smaller scale, and absolutely invite anyone at any time to sit down with me and ask any questions they may have. Rather than provide a multitude of nuanced answers on the topic I prefer to keep it simple from the start. Elected officials must remember where they came from and who put them in office. Serving is a privilege not a right. Get out in the community and talk to the people, go to municipal meetings and coffee shops, be accessible. The millions being spent are not ours, they come from the pockets of every hard-working taxpayer in this county, get out into your communities and talk to the people.
Absolutely. It should be declared in the public forum and sworn and signed, day one. Integrity and accountability are the cornerstones of trust. Anyone that refuses to sign such an oath, in my opinion, may have something to hide from the public, and that is unacceptable. All violations of the public trust should be fully investigated and mitigated appropriately.
I am a lifelong resident of Genesee County, with strong roots here and a belief that this county can be a great driving force in the state of Michigan once again. The County Board of Commissioners needs strong, bold leadership which I can supply. I will not be beholden to anyone other than my constituents and will speak truth to power to deliver for the residents of the 9th District. Once elected I will also remain as the Davison – Richfield Fire Chief and serve both positions with a fierce work ethic and tireless dedication to the honor of serving the public.
