Water delivery, water treatment, water quality, sewers, and storm drains are all important elements to keeping Genesee County healthy and vibrant. What top priorities (positive forward actions) do you plan to establish for the office of Drain Commissioner? Explain.

Following the same concepts in question 1, what top 2 challenges do you expect with regard to infrastructure? Explain.

The Karegnondi system was approved and put in place with the expectation of improved reliability, cost stability, and operational autonomy. What, if anything, can you briefly share about successes/challenges of the KWA?

Campaign Message MAKE OUR DRINKING WATER GREAT AGAIN
Endorsements US Taxpayers Party
First, if elected I aim to remove fluoride from our drinking water as the EPA has admitted that it is a neurotoxin and an industrial waste. Secondly, I will push to replace chlorine which is concentrated bleach with an upgrade to UV Technology. Thirdly, I hope to include a Reverse Osmosis filtration system to our waste water treatment plant to eliminate lead and PFAS or “forever chemicals”.
Any challenges with maintaining our infrastructure will come from our Board of Commissioners. They can never agree how much to spend and on whichever project and they tend to have ties to whatever project they want to spend money on. When they receive money from Lansing to spend on improvements, including infrastructure projects, that money can sit for years.
Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright, at least in theory, made a sound decision to support local operational autonomy by supporting the KWA. The KWA creates market competition with the GLWA and that should help stabilize prices. However, the reason for the GLWA rate hikes was a direct result of the Flint Water Crisis.
I firmly believe anyone in a position of authority should agree to conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner, just like everybody else who has to work in the private sector.

I remain dedicated to delivering high quality drinking water to our residents, at the lowest possible costs. The hard-working men and women of our community were abandoned by a Detroit system that price gouged Flint and Genesee County water customers, while giving those in Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne Counties preferential treatment. Those days ended with the implementation of KWA, and local control of our own water system. Our office has not issued a water increase in 8 years. One of my primary goals is to continue to hold costs in check, and continue to make escalating rates a thing of the past.

Critical infrastructure dealing with water, sewer, and drainage are some of the most important resources that exist in our community. Properly maintaining this infrastructure is not just critical to providing services. As we have seen in other communities, it can mean the difference between whether or not someone loses their home, business, or even their life. The dedicated men and women of our office utilize their expertise each and every day to respond to the needs of Genesee County, ensuring thorough communication with residents, and timely resolution of issues in each area we serve.
The Karegnondi (KWA) Pipeline has been one of the most successful infrastructure projects in our state’s history. KWA ended Detroit’s monopoly on water, stabilized rates, gave us local control of our water system, and provided unprecedented reliability. The critical need for KWA was proven in 2023 when our former provider experienced a massive watermain break on their aging system. For 64 days Genesee County provided water from the KWA pipeline to Flint, Lapeer, and nearby communities. Without KWA, our entire county and region would have experienced a dangerous and dire water emergency.
Dedication to the residents, their needs and their needs alone must remain paramount. I hold each and every employee in our office to the highest ethical standards, and that begins and ends with myself. Being honest, transparent, and good stewards of ratepayer funds is critical. I am proud of the standards my office has set, conducting and passing yearly audits, and ensuring no water rate increases for the past 8 years. I fully support a robust ethics policy for every single elected official in our community.
