During my career in Kansas state government, I served on the fiscal side and dealt with the public directly. The Treasurer has an obligation to provide service to all citizens in the most effective and efficient manner, and technology plays a major role. The Treasurer must be present to oversee and meet the daily demands of the office; I will be in-person and fulfill this trust.
The Treasurer is responsible for issuing tax statements, collecting taxes, and then crediting and depositing the funds. My experience in the Department of Revenue as Controller will be beneficial.
As the "bus lady" at Topeka Metro I brought innovative change creating the "Kids Ride Free" year-round for Topeka. I will look for avenues to bring about innovation.
The treasurer’s interface with county citizens is an integral and significant part of our day-to-day operations as well as the daily deposit and crediting of monies received by the public for property taxes. Both responsibilities depend on computer-aided technology working in the background. Defending these transactions and data from nefarious computer hacking schemes and interference requires a constant vigilance by the Treasurer and all employees. To the best of my ability, I will seek out that protection of our systems.
As I have campaigned door-to-door, I asked about improvements to the office. Most folks readily remark that the current service is good. Employees are a key component to the quality of service and current Treasurer, Larry Mah, has done much to hire good staff. I pledge to continue to hire and train quality staff to meet the needs of the public.
My top priority will be to maintain the quality service that all Shawnee County residents have come to expect and deserve.
I welcome the opportunity to continue this standard of service and look forward to bringing other improvements and innovation to Shawnee County residents.
