My name is Dr. LaRhonda Williams, and I am passionate about placing people over politics, as service is about preparing future infrastructures rather than supporting a party's ideology. If allowed to serve, I will significantly support individuals with opportunities for change and growth. I am an advocate for correctional reform and re-entry. For over 30 years, I have worked to help returned citizens as well as those who have endured substance abuse and mental health pressures. I believe in the power of change, and I champion the development and support of opportunities for others to learn from their past experiences and to focus on their futures.
The 5 issues facing the State of Tennessee are gun reform, LGBTQ+ community, public school funding, reproductive rights, and equitable distribution of funds.
I support the 2nd Amendment and believe in responsible gun ownership. I think it's essential to ensure that those who are legally qualified to own a gun can do so while preventing those who are not qualified from accessing firearms for the safety of everyone. To address gun-related deaths in Tennessee, I propose reinstating gun permit requirements with annual safety training, regulating gun sales to ensure qualifications, and continuing to collaborate with agencies that promote training and gun safety.
