Brainerd City Council Member At Large
{_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}
As local legislators who sometimes have executive power, council members can propose ordinances, set administrative policy, and authorize the budget proposed by the mayor. They oversee all city activities, including city services, programs, licensing, and public safety. Mayoral appointments to city government typically require council approval. I'm the only fresh, new voice running against the incumbents for an at-large position. If you believe the council needs a fresh perspective, I'm ready to be that voice. I support our citizens receiving quality, reliable police, and fire service. I recognize the need for responsible oversight of our aging infrastructure. I want to acknowledge and work on the new issues facing the city. I am prepared to work, study and research the issues and fully participate and engage in discussion. Incumbent Kevin Stunek recently voted “no” to explore the potential to lower the levy by nearly $150,000 annually. I would never oppose investigating an option to lower the levy on taxpayers. It will be an honor to actively serve the residents of Brainerd.
What is interesting about prioritizing is that each group wants to be #1. For the council to be effective, it must treat every issue as #1 simultaneously. The city is responsible for managing and maintaining services such as water, sewer, roads, parks, fire/police. It also provides guidance for new endeavors by asking tough questions; is it doable, is it affordable, does it meet health/safety requirements. My priority is to keep services running smooth, affordable and allow appropriate growth.
The city council has always been available to it’s members. If a person has an issue, they can go to City Hall and speak to staff, or they can contact their Ward representative or any At-large member. You can speak at council meetings, make appointments, send email or call. Our city has always had a fluctuating diverse population. I will be available to every Brainerd resident. If you live in the city, you have a voice. Use it. I’m listening.
I believe in transparency and accountability. If or when a problem occurs, I will do everything within my positional power to ensure clarity and responsibility of those involved. Those who know me will tell you I can be like a dog with a bone when the need arises. I will not condone coverups or sweep overs.
