My vision for Casco Township is that we continue being a good steward of our resources by focusing on the constitutional priorities of collecting taxes, election administration, property tax assessment administration etc.
The most critical, basic issue in our township is the presupposition ( implicit in this question) that the township's purpose is to meet resident's needs. In many ways the most critical need is for township government to get out of the way. This is most evident in zoning regulations. I believe we are burdening our taxpayers with the overlapping unintended consequences of well-intentioned zoning limitations and there needs to be common sense guidelines and procedures to protect the God-given rights to property declared in 1776 (Declaration of Independence), secured in 1787 (Constitution) and 1791 ( Bill of Rights), and eroded over the last century.
I believe the best tool for communicating with township residents is a listening ear, searching out the foundational principles to address their questions and concerns, and finding solutions that best promote the general welfare (the welfare of all).

Continued protection of the bluffs; expanding and improving internet access; land development, especially as it relates to housing and recreation; road safety; monitoring public water and sewer prices.
The most critical issues have to do with land use. As a township, how much housing and commercial development is appropriate? How do we meet the needs of full time residents and part time residents? I think there needs to be more information given to rural residents on what services/opportunities are available to them. What would be appropriate restrictions on investment housing, aka short term rentals? How can we protect the fragile bluffs? How can we make internet access more competitive and reliable? What are some options in controlling the costs of the public water and sewer system?
One tool for keeping residents informed would be a community facebook page. Another would be informing the various churches in the community what the township board is working on and encouraging residents to contact specific board members for more information. I think it would be very helpful if the township website were to be updated at minimum at least once a month.
