VOTE411 Voter Guide

Nevada State Assembly District 20

The Nevada State Assembly is the lower chamber of the state Legislature and works alongside the Senate to draft, debate, and enact state laws. All 42 Assembly seats are up for election in 2026, and the Assembly plays a central role in shaping policy on schools, healthcare, housing, jobs, public safety, and state budgeting. Because Assembly members represent local districts and serve two-year terms, these races allow voters to hold lawmakers closely accountable and ensure that policy priorities reflect the needs and values of their communities. These elections matter for democratic representation and for how the state resolves the biggest challenges facing Nevadans.

I voted for legislation to keep Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents off school grounds and block ICE from collecting information on students. I support other measures to prevent state and local law enforcement from partnering with ICE to implement the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
As legislatures in other states have exploited the redistricting process to suppress Black, Hispanic, and Democratic representation, we need a national solution to ensure fair representation in Congress and state legislatures, including enforcement of the Voting Rights Act.
I would like to continue my work to limit prices for prescription drugs and other health care. During my three terms in the Assembly, my colleagues and I have taken important steps to lower health care costs, including capping the cost of insulin at $35 per month and protecting patients from surprise hospital bills. I support enactment of a refiled Assembly Bill 259 (2025), a vetoed bill that would have capped prices for all drugs, and a refiled Assembly Bill 349 (2025), my bill to prevent hospitals from overcharging patients.

The lawless actions of ICE have nothing to do with immigration enforcement. ICE has demonstrated a repeated propensity for violating the rights of the American people. We must protect the rights of Nevadans by ceasing State government cooperation with ICE. We must also increase accountability among federal immigration agents operating in Nevada, which is why these agents should generally be prohibited from wearing masks and must wear identifying information.
The redistricting process should be nonpartisan. However, in light of certain other States engaging in partisan redistricting to improperly create an unrepresentative legislature, Nevada must have the ability to respond to such tactics to ensure fair representation for the people in Congress.
Any corporation operating in Nevada must be banned from donating to any candidate for political office or to any political party. The influence of corporate campaign donations is poisonous to our democratic republic. If we don't get corporate money out of politics, we won't have a government of the people; instead, we will have a government of unaccountable powerful special interests. We must pass an amendment to the Nevada Constitution to ban corporate money in politics, which is a crucial first step toward creating a true government of the people.
