The right to make deeply personal, private reproductive health care decisions should belong to the Iowans themselves—not politicians. In the State Senate I have been a passionate advocate to protect our rights and improve access to reproductive care.

I sponsored legislation to protect the right to contraception, IVF, and abortion access. I argued against the Governor kicking thousands of Iowans off of Medicaid coverage for pregnancy and the year that followed. When our state passed one of the most extreme abortion bans in the nation, I was on the Senate floor sharing the stories of Iowans right up until the moment the Republican Majority cut off debate.
I am an advocate for the economic policies that truly help our neighbors and build a stronger economy. I stand up for quality affordable child care, strong public schools, tax policies that are fair, higher wages, accessible health care, and a government that listens to regular Iowans—not out of state big money interests.

I know what it is like to be caught between child care bills that costs more than our mortgage and student loans. Even with two incomes our family has often struggled to make ends meet. Not only can I relate to the economic pressures that Iowans are facing, for years I have worked with the non-profits that are on the front lines assisting our neighbors.

I support commonsense gun safety legislation like red flag laws, permitting, background checks, and safe storage requirements. If we can enact these policies to keep weapons out of the hands of children, people who are danger to themselves or others, we will make our communities much safer. In Iowa the vast majority of gun deaths are suicides, so investing in mental health resources is an important piece of responding to gun violence.
Iowa needs to rejoin the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) the national nonpartisan voter protection organization. Extreme Republican politicians took our state out of an important and respected way to ensure election integrity. We should return to previous absentee ballot policies and restore the early voting period to its full length of time. If photo ID laws are to remain in place, we must make accessing and updating a photo ID more accessible and affordable. The state should also fund a voter registration and education program for youth.
The insurance industry for property is in crisis--we are all seeing our rates rising dramatically. Extreme weather events are largely the cause. I support the development of renewable energy, investment in sustainable agriculture practices, innovations in building design and community planning that minimize damage. But overall, we need our elected leaders to be honest that there is climate crisis we must address.
