QUALIFICATIONS:A member must be at least 18 years of age, a qualified voter and must be a resident within the territory of the consolidated local government and district that he or she seeks to represent for at least one (1) year immediately prior to the person’s electionTERM:The members are elected by the city’s twenty-six districts in partisan elections to serve four-year, staggered terms.DUTIES:The Louisville Metro Council is the city’s primary legislative body. It is responsible for adopting the city budget, approving mayoral appointees, levying taxes, and making or amending city laws, policies, and ordinances. It was formally established in 2003 after the merger of the City of Louisville and Jefferson County. The Metro Council is made up of twenty-six members.

I was born and raised in this District and have spent my entire life living here. Everything about this neighborhood has made me who I am today. The people, organizations, schools, and businesses of the Highlands have shaped my worldview and I am running for office to give back to them.
I am a proud JCPS graduate of several District 8 schools and went to college and graduate school in order to work in education. My career has been spent helping marginalized students get access to education, which involves connecting people to resources they need at a large and complicated organization. As a council person, I would use those skills to connect constituents to resources they need from the government.
I am particularly concerned about affordability in our District, but also our city. I believe affordable housing is the key to solving homelessness and we simply don't have enough of it. I want to advocate for more affordable housing by ensuring that developments include this type of housing. Furthermore, I will advocate for that housing to be truly affordable, meeting the standard of costing 30% of the average median income (AMI) and no more than 50% AMI.
I will always stand in solidarity with policy and practice that fights white supremacy culture. As a council person, I would be proud to support and even sponsor legislation that has been proven to promote equity. Some examples include (but obviously are not limited to): encouraging accountability and transparency in the LMPD employment agreement with the city which the council votes to approve, legislation creating anti-displacement policies for developers, community benefits agreements with developers, and guaranteeing residents the right to shelter.
Transparency and accountability are incredibly important to me. KY open records law rightfully dictates that an elected official's records should be readily available to the public and I will work to make that happen by sharing how I spend neighborhood funds on my website, in addition to sharing how I vote and why on any Council issues on my website. As Justice Louis Brandeis said, "Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants." Without transparency, there can be no accountability. I promise, as a Council Person, to always be open with my constituents.
We have one of the highest rates of gun violence in the nation and desperately need gun control to remedy this. I will be a proud advocate for common sense gun control for our city which is why I've received the Gun Sense Candidate designation from Mom Demands Action.
I am a proud graduate of JCPS and my kids are JCPS students. I support public education in our city and want to expand it to include universal pre-K. Education has statistically been proven to reduce all types of negative outcomes in the long run so we need to invest in it.
