Submitted Biography I am a Fremont County native, a graduate of Florence High School, and a Canon City resident. I have spent more than half my life living and working in the 11th Judicial District. My ancestors were Custer County pioneers, and I come from a family of military veterans and community servants. Like them, I believe serving the community is the highest calling in a career.

I believe justice is restoring the victim or society to their previous state prior to the crime being committed. Restoration is key. I will be a victim-centered prosecutor as I have been in various district attorney's offices in this state. Sentencing is holding offenders accountable within the law and obtaining restitution for the victim. I believe law enforcement and prosecution needs to be more aggressive in these two aspects of our system, justice and sentencing because I believe the system has lost its focus.
From the prosecution side, we need to start with the needs and rights of victims. There are a lot of resources for offenders and often not as much for the victims of crime. My administration will take this into account and seek to obtain justice for victims. The needs and rights of defendants are protected by defense attorneys and the criminal justice system.
This is a tough question. I believe that crimes involving firearms should be vigorously prosecuted. We should work to get illegal firearms off the streets. Legal firearms are just that; legal and they should be afforded the protection of the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution.
These cases do exist, and it should be the goal of the system to get the issues that led to the conduct addressed in some fashion. However, if an alcohol addicted person gets behind the wheel of a car and kills three people, the addiction issue loses importance and then then offender should be held wholly accountable in the eyes of the law.
If the death penalty were re-instituted, I would support the law, just as I would support any law the legislature and governor pass. As prosecutors we are sworn to uphold the law. I have been doing so for twenty-seven (27) years.
