Crime prevention efforts work best when members of the community and the law enforcement officers who are sworn to protect and serve them work together. That is why law enforcement leaders must always be willing to engage with the community. And, of course, they need to send a clear message to the people they lead that listening to the community is important.

Many years ago, there was a “We’re in the People Business!” banner prominently displayed in the sheriff’s department headquarters. If I am elected sheriff, I want to renew this simple, yet very important customer service philosophy among the men and women of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Working together, we can do more to prevent crime in Lexington County!
Our deputies are doing the best they can to respond to the needs of the people of Lexington County, but the staffing crisis raging within the sheriff’s department is leading to higher deputy response times and, just as important, higher stress on our deputies. That’s why, if elected, I want to take immediate steps to increase pay and staffing and to improve benefits packages for first responders so that the sheriff’s department can improve the quality of its services to the people of Lexington County.

All of Lexington County deserves the same, high level of service from the sheriff’s department. I want to take better care of the men and women of the sheriff’s department so that they can take better care of the people of Lexington County.

Community engagement is vital for Law Enforcement agencies in order to succeed. We have amazing community support in our County. We must continue to connect with business owners and residents thru programs like neighborhood watch and Citizen's Academy. We have many new people coming to our area and it is important to meet and partner with them.
We use technology to our advantage so every deputy can see the locations of others that are working to help prioritize calls and get the fastest response. We have been on a record pace in both hiring and retention and as more personnel are trained and deployed response times will go down.
Have meetings in each community every 3 to 4 months. Hear all issues involved in each community.
First thing, hire more deputies to cover all areas of the county. 100 or more deputies short.

I’m starting a program citizens can attend in person or online with our legal staff, training unit and myself so citizens know their rights and how to respond to situations. I will extend our resident deputy program so citizens have more access to a deputy. I encourage the community and crime watch programs to continue as we will assist these groups by advertising when and where they meet. Social media crime watch groups have grown significantly and we encourage these groups to continue to grow.
I often hear that no one wants to police anymore. Law Enforcement like many other professions is a calling. There are many that want to join the Sheriff’s Department yet not under the current administration. We can rebuild and add onto due to the growth of the county so everyone receives timely professional service regardless of location.
