Education Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and Master's in Leadership
Qualifications 36 years of Military experience serving in numerous leadership roles, small business owner,
I am not in favor of any additional taxes on the working class to cover able bodied people that are not working. I understand the need for additional medical care for individuals not making enough, but the people that are working can’t continue to shoulder this burden, and we can’t continue going in debt. I recommend we work with small businesses that are not able to provide healthcare for their employees, and help them offer more affordable insurance. My wife and I have 6 kids together and we worked multiple jobs for years to help afford our medical insurance. We eventually become employed with employers that helped cover our insurance and when I joined the Military full time we had better healthcare coverage. More taxes are not the answer
SC is attracting large employers because we don’t over tax businesses or citizens. We need to ensure we do not change these things. SC is in a unique position to where I don’t believe we have to give large tax breaks to attract employers. SC has attracted many large employers in recent years, some with large tax cuts and some without having to give those breaks. Things may change in the future to where we would need to offer additional incentives to come to SC but with the work ethic of the citizens of SC and the average tax rate businesses save money by moving to SC. I also understand that small businesses are the backbone of the economy in SC and every state. Continuing to make small business a priority will continue to expand jobs.
Being in the Military I have kept up with the information about rising sea levels through the DoD. According to the sea level tracker by the USACE the seal levels are increasing. In Charleston for 2010 the increase was 0.0102 ft/yr and in 2021 the rate was 0.0111 ft/yr. That’s an increase of 0.0009 ft/yr. Some strategies recommended by the DoD are to build natural infrastructures like barrier islands, oyster and coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass, and salt marshes. One study concluded that wetlands and dunes naturally diffuse floodwaters and storm surges. By allowing natural coastal defenses to remain in place would reduce the number of people at risk for sea level rise damage by half. SC has and should continue allowing and building these.
Currently, the SC Constitution says the legislature is the key stakeholder for a child’s education. I think that should be changed to make the parent the key stakeholder. Parents should be able to working with local school boards to determine how their children are educated to include what books are available in the school libraries.
