I hold office hours during all the township's regular hours of operation, as well as the Saturday prior to election day from 9am-5pm, to facilitate voters needs. Since May of 2023, Jamestown Township voters have been able to request to be added to the Permanent Ballot list. The Clerk's office will mail ballots as soon as they are available. We still uphold a Permanent Absent Voter list. The Clerk's office mails these voters an absent voter ballot request form prior to each election. They can then decide if they would like to vote in person or by absentee ballot per election. If they decide that they would like to vote absentee, they simply return their application to my office, noting if they will need their absentee ballot sent to an alternate address if they are either at school or temporarily living away from their registration address. And, of course for those who prefer to vote in person on election day, we have precincts staffed with trained election inspectors.
Signatures on every application and every AV ballot are verified. If a signature does not match the signature we have on file, the voter is contacted immediately. We have the ability to obtain a new signature from the voter and add it to their voter file. Sometimes, the signatures don’t match and the voter doesn’t respond when contacted. In those circumstances, either a ballot is not issued or their ballot is marked rejected and therefore, not counted. Election inspectors are required to obtain official training every two years. I encourage my inspectors to attend more frequently. We rotate inspectors to work at different precincts and in different groups to give them a variety of experiences. Inspectors from both major parties are at each location to keep the process balanced. On election night our Receiving Board verifies that all paperwork is filled out correctly, everything is signed and sealed, and they prepare a signed/sealed chain of custody bag to be transported to the county.
I am very detail oriented and pride myself in working with accuracy. I have always loved math. In fact, my first full-time job was a bank teller. The need for balancing and reconciling numbers comes into play with several aspects of a Clerk's duties. Clerk wears many hats in their role, and no two townships are alike. My duties as Jamestown Charter Township Clerk fall into two categories: Statutory Duties (duties prescribed by law) and Other Duties (duties assigned by the township). In addition to the Statutory Duties, other Jamestown Clerk duties include: • Oversee and maintain records for 4 cemeteries. We are currently adding all grave records into a digital format so that in the future all cemetery information will be available on our website. • Collect and pay Township invoices weekly • Submit Township payroll and pension • Notary Public • Township website administration • Assist with general office tasks
