Experience
More than 30 years in law enforcement, including the 15 and a half years as the Chief Deputy of Dorchester County Sheriff's Office; Retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve
I believe I am the best candidate for sheriff of Dorchester County. With over 30 years of law enforcement experience, I have risen through the ranks of the sheriff's office, serving as Chief Deputy for the past 16 years. In this role, I have managed operations, developed strategic initiatives, and built strong relationships within our community. My extensive experience in law enforcement gives me a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities we face. This experience has informed my blueprint to keep Dorchester County safe. In addition to my law enforcement background, I am a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. This military experience has instilled in me the values of discipline, integrity, and service, which I bring to my leadership approach. I am skilled at making critical decisions under pressure and working collaboratively with diverse teams.
We need to police our neighborhoods better. Property crime affects the most people. Our neighborhoods need stepped-up patrols to effectively deter car break-ins and property crimes. Deputies need to be in the policing of our neighborhoods, not behind desks. We need to address homelessness in our communities, as it is a public safety and health hazard that is endangering our neighborhoods.
To get more deputies on patrol, we must reform the sheriff's office structure. We need to overhaul the Sheriff's office structure to ensure that law enforcement professionals are where they are needed most - in our neighborhoods, protecting our citizens. Additionally, law enforcement techniques have evolved. Dorchester County must move forward with cutting-edge intelligence gathering combined with community policing. The way forward in law enforcement involves using predictive analytics to influence how the sheriff’s office deploys resources.
AI allows a police agency to be more effective in spotting and responding to trends and changes in crime. When paired with community policing, the agency can forecast potential upticks and certain crime elements to redeploy resources according to tendencies and data in a more proactive relationship than we have seen before.
Diversionary programs for juveniles not arrested for felony offenses see the best results. We need to ensure these programs have structure, financial literacy, counseling, and religious options available. Additionally, I want to reestablish our cadet program as a way for our teenagers to see law enforcement as a viable path and create stronger relationships
