I am a Vietnam war veteran who served on the U.S.S. Benjamin Stoddert DDG-22. The last U.S. warship to leave Vietnam. I was a news reporter for fifteen years in radio, television and newspaper. I rose to the position of guest host of National Native News and Native News Features aired daily on National Public Radio Network. While working at Sho-Ban News and KKLB Radio in Southeastern Idaho,I covered politics and government. I was recruited into Shoshone-Bannock Tribal Court as Chief Public Defender -Advocate later served as Chief Tribal Prosecutor and the Associate Tribal Judge. I served on the Snake River Water Adjudication Negotiations team and the Gaming Compact negotiations team.
I have experience in setting goals and making what seems to the difficult happen. An example of my works can be found at the Shoshone-Bannock Jr. /Sr. Highschool where I was able to negotiate government to government agreements with INL for a class that teaches the students construction trades and prepares the students for jobs at the INL. I also was able to negotiate with the Idaho National Guard to establish a Guard Leadership class. My goals for Bannock County include building a forensic center. I know the County Commission turned it down. I want to make it happen. It can eventually become cost effective. My second goals is to make sure our taxes is fair. Third is to make sure growth is controlled and planned for.
I don't have enough information to make a decision on climate change. We need to study the issue and partner with ISU and come up with comprehensive plans for the future.
I was raised in a family of people who saw challenges and step up to address them. My mother lobbied for the 1964 Idaho Civil Rights Act and it passed. Idaho stepped up to do the right thing. My father was the President of the Labors Union in Pocatello. So stepping up to address real issues is what we do. Working with people is what has allowed me to be successful in reaching goals to better serve the people. I plan to continue reaching out to bring people together to "build the bridges " to make it happen as your Bannock County Commissioner. Nothing is too big if we all work together.

I am proud to be from Bannock County. I was born in McCammon, raised on a small farm and went to Marsh Valley where I received lessons in integrity, family values, and hard work. I attended ISU where I received a Business Management, Accounting, and CIS degrees. I raised my family and made a career here. I have been in business and public office for over 40 years. I served as Mayor for 22 years until I accepted the position of County Commissioner for a two years. I Have served on local, state, regional, and multistate boards for economic, transportation, and government purposes.

I appreciate the relationship and dependence of business in Pocatello and Chubbuck. They rely on the workforce and customers residing throughout the region. We have an interdependence upon each other for commerce, entertainment, education, health and safety, and workforce. I believe we need to continue to encourage and foster growth in local Business, State, County, and City opportunities. We need collaboration to secure grants, partnerships, and economic growth while keeping Bannock County a great place to live. I will work closely with department heads in maintaining a fiscally responsible budget. Bannock County needs good relationships with other counties in Southeast Idaho.
We need to encourage alternative transportation around our area, including public transit, bike and walking paths, effective use of zoning to place housing, working environments, and business in close proximity with each other. Proper oversight of Planning and Zoning is essential to maintain good growth patterns to help with traffic, economic growth, and proper utilization of area resources throughout the county. We need to effectively support each cities Area of impacts while overseeing the Master Plan of counties Planning and Zoning strategic plan. Maintaining an effective waste management system including recycling at the County landfill can help reduce costs of future climate change.
• I was born, raised, and educated in Bannock County, I owned a business in Bannock County have worked for 40 years in Business and management opportunities in Bannock County. • I am still taking care of my elderly parents in local Assisted Living Center while three of my sons are gainfully employed and raising families in Bannock County. • This is my county and feel great pride in representing Bannock County on the Commission.
My professional journey and personal challenges have uniquely prepared me for the role of County Commissioner. My roots on a dairy farm in Jerome instilled in me the values of hard work and perseverance. Despite humble beginnings, I was inspired to surpass my family's financial limitations. These experiences, along with my battle with lymphoma and subsequent decision to pursue an MBA during treatment, taught me the power of resilience and the importance of education as a transformative tool. My community service as the Executive Director of the Portneuf Greenway Foundation and my advocacy for balanced governance and personal freedoms have honed my leadership skills, preparing me to serve the diverse needs of Bannock County effectively.
If elected, I am committed to fostering a community where growth and personal freedoms coexist harmoniously. My primary goals include enhancing local infrastructure to make Bannock County a more connected and vibrant community, advocating for property tax reforms to ease the financial burden on our residents, and ensuring equal maintenance and investment in important community assets like the Wellness Complex and the Downey Fairgrounds. I also aim to improve accessibility to the commissioners by holding meetings across the county, ensuring all constituents feel represented and heard.
Bannock County can take several cost-effective steps to address climate change. These include promoting energy efficiency programs, expanding public transportation to reduce vehicle emissions, and supporting local agriculture to decrease dependency on imported goods, contributing to significant emissions. Additionally, enhancing our green spaces and supporting initiatives like the Portneuf Greenway can increase carbon sequestration while providing recreational opportunities for our community. Right now, the extremism on the commission has eliminated landowners' rights to enjoy their property as they see fit. Solar farms were voted down for the entirety of the county, even though most citizens who testified were for them.
I want to express my gratitude for your engagement and support. My campaign is built on the foundation of hard work, resilience, and a commitment to representation. I strive to bring a fresh perspective to the Bannock County Commission, advocating for policies that reflect the true needs of our diverse community. I am here to listen to you, learn from you, and lead with you. Let’s work together to shape a future for Bannock County that we can all be proud of. I would appreciate your vote on May 21st.
