Johnson County Coroner

The chief responsibility of the coroner is to determine the manner of death in certain cases, including those involving violence, casualty, or suspicious circumstances. When notified of a death under circumstances delineated in Indiana Code, the coroner must alert and obtain the investigative assistance of the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction in the area. When the coroner determines the cause of death, the law requires the coroner to file a report of his or her findings with the local health officer. If an autopsy is necessary, the coroner must employ a qualified physician to conduct it. A coroner serves a four-year term. County Growth, Death investigations involving drug overdoses & Suicides, Facility improvements,
While medical training can enhance a coroner's qualifications, it is not a requirement for election. Only after they are elected do they have to complete the 40-hour Medicolegal Death Investigators Course. Understanding Medical Terminology, interpreting findings, and knowing anatomy and physiology only enhances the Coroner's Capabilities.
Managing the impact of population growth in Johnson County has been my top priority over last 3 years. The Coroners Office is currently preparing to move into a brand new facility and recently hired our first full time employee Administrative Deputy Coroner to manage the new facility and improve services for families of the deceased, funeral homes and law enforcement agencies. The next four years will be committed to expanding on these projects and participating in more death prevention education such as overdose and suicide prevention groups.

Fiscal Responsibility Physical visibility and presence Assistance in the community
According to Indiana law No the Coroner is not required to have medical training, however I believe that it is in the best interest of the decedent and the family for the coroner to actually have a medical background.
Work on how to work with other counties so that we are not increasing taxes with fiscal irresponsibility. Making sure that we are not hiring staff to do the coroner’s job so that we are basically paying the coroner a salary and staff a salary for the same job. Education in the public reliem
I have been a critical care both adult and pediatric paramedic and firefighter for over 30 years serving the community in many aspects. I have been a deputy coroner in a different county and when this county was in need of help I offered to help. Community based, educational based, educational background in criminal justice and pre-med.
