I support any measure that removes barriers to citizens exercising their right to vote, especially measures that increase voter participation. This includes automatic voter registration at the BMV, extending hours to 6am-9pm (or better yet, making Election Day a state holiday), support early (absentee) voting access and no-excuse vote by mail. Election infrastructure should be the same across the state.

We need redistricting reform. Gerrymandering significantly discourages voter participation. I support the flexibility provided by having vote centers rather than dedicated polling locations and feel this model should be adopted across the state. (Indiana should look to other states for Best Practices toward increased voter engagement.)
Indiana needs a state-wide plan that provides the prioritization and infrastructure necessary to address climate issues from a resource stewardship perspective. Climate issues pose significant risks to public health, environment, and our economy. Funding must go towards a proactive data-driven approach to address short-term and long-term climate impact. Indiana cannot abandon its families and their future generations for short-term economic gain. Our resources of air, water and soil must be protected and not squandered. Any plan should include: a comprehensive assessment of climate-related challenges, strategies around mitigation and adaptation, center the voices of farmers, and advocate for public education and stakeholder collaboration.
Mní Wičhóni. Water is life. While Indiana is a water rich state, we have some of the most polluted waters in the nation. We cannot wish our way out of this environmental disaster. Legislation and funding that support statewide regional water study and planning is imperative if we want to encourage businesses and families to stay or relocate to Indiana. Businesses cannot thrive if employees do not want to live here. Watershed management must go beyond studying the nutrient levels of soil. We have to invest in contaminant studies that can then inform sustainable industrial, housing, and agricultural practices and planning. This includes Investing in green infrastructure like wetlands restoration and vegetation buffers.
Listen to public school teachers and administrators. We have reduced teaching time to test preparation. We have not given teachers and school administrators the credit due for the education and experience they have earned nor the tools necessary to achieve all the federal and state standards placed upon them. We must stop siphoning tax-payer funds into for-profit schools that are not held to the same accountability or expectations. We can help address teacher shortages by continuing to advocate for collective bargaining rights for teachers. Additionally, trauma-informed mental health professionals need to be funded for public schools to support students still struggling in our post-Covid and current Active- Shooter-Drill world.
I will maintain open communication channels with constituents (e.g. newsletters, town halls, constituent meetings) and provide easily accessible information about legislative matters to encourage greater civic participation.

I will actively seek public input, adhere to ethical standards, and be transparent about the factors influencing my decisions. I recognize that I am open to criticism, however, this contributes to transparency and accountability within a strong democracy. As I defend my decisions, I pledge to uphold principles of good governance, mindful that I serve all constituents, not solely those who voted for me.
