The Lake County Recorder's Office is responsible for the preservation and safe keeping of records. These records correspond to most people's valuable asset- their home.
I am the current Lake County Recorder. I was elected in 2020 and started my first term in 2021. Since this time, I have made numerous changes in the office to improve efficiency. The office takes credit card and generates electronic receipts. Half of the documents recorded in our office comes through E-Recording which was implemented in 2021. Our office offers a community discount/rewards program for Veterans called Honor Rewards. Property Fraud Alert is a new program that is free and extremely quick for Lake County residents to sign up for- alerting them if a document is recorded with their name on it. Documents brought in in person are returned at that same time, after payment. We no longer hang on to documents and mail them back. This has saved employee's time and County money by eliminating postage fees. We are offering a recording program via Excel to cities and towns which record documents paperless and automatically download data and images.
Before I was elected in 2020, I have been in charge of the finances in the Recorder's Office. I have worked with the State Board of Accounts to ensure that the Lake County Recorder's Office is compliant with the standards that SBOA sets. All money that we bring in is accounted for. Our bank account is reconciled to the penny monthly. We have one check a month that is written to the Treasurer to submit the money that the office receives for recording and copy fees.
As the current Lake County Recorder, I have maintained the same team of people that were employed at the office before I started in 2014. Employees were added to the team and some have left. Currently, we have employees that have been working at the office from anywhere from 2 to 38 years. The mix has certainly worked for us- all of our employees are cross trained and self sufficient. The office would not be able to run without the support and hard work that Recorder's Office team puts in every day.
I'm so very thankful to have served Lake County since 2020. I was in the Recorder's office prior serving as Chief Deputy and learning the office starting in 2014. I am looking forward to starting my second consecutive term. I am a hands on, present elected official. I take so much pride in my job and in my office and do my best daily to provide the best service possible with the most innovative ideas to our tax payers.
