County Oregon
For Baker County: quality health care and emergency response management; adequate housing; economic development. To grow our communities and attract new residents and have people stay here, we need to have access to a quality health care system (including a fully functioning hospital) and adequate emergency response units (including city and rural fire districts - paid and volunteer). We need access to affordable housing for first time home buyers, new buyers to the area, etc. With strong health care, emergency management and adequate housing, people will want to move here and this help drive economic development. We have to have a base to work from.
I have 43 years in the banking industry. Most recently 17 years as an operations solutions manager. Prior to that, I did training, marketing, and executive administrative duties. I am involved with Baker County Fair Board, Baker County Cattlewomen, OSU Extension Citizens Advisory Network, and am a 4H leader. My corporate and non-profit experiences have taught me the importance of listening and to be accountable for one's actions. I can bring a well-rounded approach to working with all departments and agencies and be an advocate to help Baker County be the best it can be.
The biggest barrier I see currently is the cost of infrastructure for new homes: including, fees to hook up water, sewer, utilities, build sidewalks, streets, etc. These costs greatly impact the price of new homes - whether it be for single family dwellings, apartments, etc. I see the County working working closely with planning officials to see options to help with the costs of new builds and even remodels of existing homes.
