I am a newcomer to local politics and am willing to admit that I didn’t know what a county board supervisor was until I heard of the vacancy in my district in 2025. I wasn’t driven by a glaring issue or deficiency in my neighborhood but would like the opportunity to guide the county board with a rational mind and with the goal of using the government to support its people, especially those most in need.
Putting aside national and international issues, on a local level the top issue remains the cost of living, especially housing, healthcare, and childcare. Most causes are larger than our one county and/or are the result of free market systems, but we still need to try to bring relief. We have some of the fastest housing growth in the state and need to encourage that. We also need to connect people in need with resources whether those resources come from within Calumet County or from outside.
I was appointed to the Calumet county board this past November of 2025 but otherwise I am new to public service! I’m a mechanical engineer by degree and sales engineer by trade, so I hope to use my overly analytical brain along with my communication skills to connect with my constituents and turn their needs into actions at the county board level.
If I’m being honest, I’m still learning which services are within the county board’s scope and which services are driven by other governing bodies. As I gain experience and understand what levers we can pull, I will listen to the knowledge of our department experts, and then guide my decision making with both logic and empathy to make Calumet County a better place to live.
I think that Calumet County has good guidelines and procedures in place to encourage open communication. This would be my first summer as the county board supervisor if elected, and I would like to go door to door in my district to make contact with my constituents to hear from them directly. Beyond face to face contact, each board supervisor has their contact information listed on the Calumet County website as well as agendas from each general meeting and committee meeting that is held.
