I want to implement the use of workshops. Business Personal Property tax always comes as a shock to new and existing business owners. I would provide an annual workshop to provide additional information to accountants, bookkeepers, and business owners. Most business owners with a small amount of personal property may never receive a tax bill, but state law requires an annual filing. Regarding property tax exemptions, providing more information on filing requirements for non-profits, churches, and other tax-exempt entities would be excellent. Often, these groups have new staff in charge and are unaware of the tax laws, so they pay late fees. Both workshops would provide a contact for questions and improve relationships.
It is my goal to be as transparent as possible. Our office currently provides the annual summary of assessments and levies reports via the website. These reports are more helpful to the taxing districts than any other. We recently upgraded our property online to provide more detailed information about value history. I would also like to list all sales used in our annual ratio study and put this online annually. The office provides a list of current sales. However, this does not align with the sales used in the yearly analysis. I would also rework our website to simplify the layout and make finding items easier.
