I believe in a woman's right to make her own healthcare choices. I also believe that Roe v Wade should never have been overturned and should have remained a federal law. All women in America deserve the same rights to reproductive care and choices, and this should not differ from state to state. If the current Dobbs decision is to stand, then as was the intention of SCOTUS, each state must put it to the people of the state to vote. The trigger laws that went into effect in states like Arkansas defeat the purpose of putting the decision in the hands of the states and the people. I intend to, if elected, ensure that the citizens of Arkansas get their chance to vote.
The high cost of living needs to be addressed by first looking at the issues of pricing across all industries. Food prices have become out of control, as corporate profits are skyrocketing. Wages need to also be addressed through looking at state and federal minimum wages and income tax rates. An equitable system needs to be put in place with the tax codes and cuts that ensures that the wealthy and corporations are paying their fair share. Tax code loopholes need to be closed to ensure large corporations pay taxes that are due, and future tax cuts need to benefit the working and middle classes more than the wealthy and corporations. This will truly put money back into the hands of the average American, and thus back into the economy.
I will support enhanced background checks as well as an increased waiting period. Background checks are vital, but the system is limited by the data that is available. With the backlogs noted by law enforcement agencies, vital information that is needed may not be readily available. An increased waiting period can help ensure that more information is available. Additional systems need to be in place to monitor repetitive and or volume purchases of firearms and ammunition, like how fertilizer purchases are monitored. And of course we need to look at the type of guns that are available to be purchased, high caliber and large magazine capacity weapon availability needs to be reconsidered.
I honestly see the election security issue as nothing more than a political smoke screen to sow distrust and doubt in the system. All reputable sources have shown no evidence of widespread election fraud or irregularity. Continuing with our current steps and precautions will ensure integrity is maintained. The efforts of the administration and state legislators to make voter registration more difficult, and the closing of polling sites in many districts effects voting access. The requirement for wet signatures, many states have proven digital registration is safe and effective, only disenfranchises potential voters. In a state where voter engagement and turnout are poor, all efforts should be made to encourage voting not to discourage it.
I am a proponent of renewable energy as a means of decreasing our carbon footprint in this state. We have all noticed the increasing temperatures and drastic weather changes. What is the harm in addressing this through the adoption of energy consciousness. We will likely never lose our dependence on fossil fuels, at least not in ours or our children's lifetimes, but we can make strides to be more aware of the damages being done. Our country has turned away from nuclear energy, and maybe part of the solution is a return to it. Solar and wind are viable methods of energy production, and with the right incentives we can build these industries. Our legislature should not be making it harder and less cost efficient to move to solar.
