As your State Senator, I pledge to defend our democracy against extremist interests funding legislative walkouts. I'll prioritize improving central Oregon by addressing transportation, housing, homelessness, public safety, and wildfire resilience. In the 2025 legislative session, we'll address declining gas tax revenue for ODOT, ensuring our transportation system supports families and businesses. I'll propose referring quorum rules to a public vote to ensure legislators fulfill their duties. I'll continue advocating for affordable housing through legislation like HB 3318 and pursue common-sense public safety solutions, drawing on my experience in local government and wildfire resilience work.
Sustaining education funding is paramount for Oregon's future. As a small business owner and parent, I understand the importance of quality schools. We must support educators with competitive salaries and safe working conditions, involve parents, and set high standards for every student. My priorities include reducing class sizes, increasing funding equitably, and expanding access to resources like technology and extracurricular activities, particularly in underserved communities.
Drawing on my experience in local government, I will prioritize addressing income inequality as your State Senator. Our recipe for reducing inequality in Central Oregon involves: 1) Investing in sustainable middle housing (e.g., HB 3318) 2) Attracting higher-paying jobs through initiatives like EDCO. 3) Prioritizing local union jobs with public funds (e.g., Bend's community contracting programs). Additionally, education and workforce development are essential for creating pathways to better-paying jobs, overseen through my role at COIC. I will also work to protect workers, support small businesses, and ensure abundant housing is available throughout our entire community.
