DUTIES: Baltimore City has a strong mayor form of government. The mayor s power is derived from several sources:The Mayor s Office, as part of the Executive Branch, is responsible for administering the laws and providing municipal services and functions.The mayor makes hundreds of appointments, including the heads of most city agencies.The mayor may veto bills passed by the city council and a three-fourths vote of the city council is necessary to override the veto.The mayor appoints two of the five members of the Board of Estimates. (The Board of Estimates is responsible for developing and executing the fiscal policy of the city. Each year it submits an annual budget called the Ordinance of Estimates to the City Council).ANNUAL SALARY: $204,040 as of 2023TERM: 4 year term. Limited to two terms.HOW ELECTED: Citywide.
