Managing public health departments that oversee disease control and health education. Coordinating with health organizations and ensuring readiness for emergencies. Maintaining rural roads which need regular repairs and upgrades to ensure safety in the face of financial constraints and weather damage. Operating jails, maintaining those facilities, ensuring fair treatment of inmates, programs to reduce recidivism. Property Assessment and Taxation: resolving disputes and ensuring equitable tax rates. Assisting low-income families, child welfare services, and mental health support. Managing regulations which impacts how property can be developed and used and balancing that with environmental protection and community interests. Addressing these issues takes a multifaceted approach. Public input, applying for grants, managing the budget, collaborating with state and local agencies, nonprofits and private sector partners. Being effective and efficient to improve service and manage costs.
Leveraging our proximity to larger cities like Cleveland and Akron to attract new business and diversify our economic base. Expand sectors such as advanced manufacturing, technology, and logistics. Encouraging entrepreneurship by supporting local startups and small businesses that drive economic growth. We have opportunities in education and workforce development by partnering with local colleges and universities such as Kent State which support research and innovation. Upgrading our transportation infrastructure to enhance connectivity. Expanding broadband access particularly in rural areas will support development and telecommuting opportunities. Expanding our parks and recreational facilities by creating more accessible community spaces. We are constrained by financial limitations, market fluctuations, aging infrastructure, and environmental and regulatory challenges. It will require strategic planning, collaboration, and community engagement to position ourselves for growth.
Utilizing smart growth planning by encouraging development that prioritizes infill and redevelopment of existing urban areas to minimize sprawl and protect natural landscapes and our 25,802 acres of parks. Incentives for developers who incorporate sustainable technologies and materials. Support conservation easements and land acquisition programs to prevent development in ecologically sensitive areas. Invest in expanding and improving public transit options to reduce reliance on personal vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Develop multi-modal transportation networks that integrate biking and walking. Support programs for stormwater management, riparian buffer zones, and runoff reduction. Educational campaigns to raise awareness about energy conservation practices and public awareness about plastic pollution. Promote use of EV’s and install more EV charging stations. Climate action plans that focus on flood mitigation infrastructure and resilient agricultural practices.
My approach would address housing affordability, availability, and quality. Increasing the housing supply provides incentives such as tax credits, grants, or density bonuses to developers who build affordable housing units. Zoning changes that allow for more mixed-use projects that include affordable housing. Preserving existing affordable housing and continuing to promote programs we offer such as low-interest loans to make necessary repairs or upgrades. Establishing an affordable housing trust fund that provides funding for the construction of affordable housing units. Encourage Mixed-income communities that reduce stigma and promote diversity and explore community land trusts as a means to acquire and manage land for affordable housing. Expedited permitting to reduce delays in construction. Down payment assistance programs, rental assistance programs. Develop housing solutions tailored to essential workers and low-income earners who significantly contribute to our local economy
