I have practiced criminal law for over 35 years, and previously served as your Nueces County Judge, and as your Judge for County Court at Law Number Five. This experience has enabled me to effectively evaluate the needs of the District Attorney's Office.

The priorities for the office would be: (1) to establish a strong work ethic for all prosecutors that are employed at the DA office; (2) to ensure compliance with the high ethical standards for all prosecutors; (3) hire experienced lawyers.
The number one concern of the citizens is the inability of the District Attorney's Office to effectively prosecute serious cases.

The concern expressed by the citizens has merit. To eliminate this serious problem, the salary paid to hire and retain qualified prosecutors must be increased. Most of the prosecutors in Nueces County are paid $15,000 to $25,000 less than prosecutors in adjoining counties. To provide justice for the victims of crime, we must be able to hire experienced prosecutors.
To increase access to justice, the number of Court appointments to each individual defense counsel should be limited. This will ensure the Courts that defense counsel will have adequate time to properly prepare each case.
