I was licensed as an attorney in Texas in 1984. In my career, I have 22 years of extensive courtroom trial experience. I also have managed substantial legal operations, including serving as the partner-in-charge of the 40+ attorney Houston office of a 300+ attorney regional law firm and serving as general counsel of a publicly traded (NYSE and Euronext Amsterdam Exchange) international oil and gas service company, managing all of the legal matters of the company, which had more than 5,000 employees located in more than 50 countries.

I have succeeded in my career by working very hard, being honest and operating with personal integrity, being diligent and obsessed with preparation, and demonstrating an ability to work with people.

Other than working with law enforcement, county officials, and the public to aggressively enforce crime, particularly those cases involving drugs and domestic violence, I also strongly support our schools and will see that officials and others operate with integrity. I will rely on my overall experience and ability to develop the best way to approach these issues and will seek to earn the confidence of the citizens of Fayette County with my efforts.

I believe the most important responsibility of my position is to ensure that our community remains a safe environment to raise a family by fairly and strictly enforcing criminal sanctions on defendants, especially those who commit violent crimes. We have used a wide range of mental health, drug rehabilitation programs and incarceration when needed to not only ensure the safety of the community but to help criminal defendants get help or prevent their future criminal acts. Our justice system isn't perfect, however, constant vigilance and cooperation with sister agencies help increase available resources to deal with society 's problems. This includes working closely with police, probation, mental help, and private and state agencies.

My career for the past 21 years has been entirely focused on the job at hand. I have attended over 400 hours of continuing legal education specifically tailored to the position of county attorney. I have taken to trial both criminal and civil matters. Over the past 19 years, I have been appointed as a special prosecutor in Bastrop, Lee, Colorado, and Lavaca counties and served as a municipal prosecutor in both Flatonia and La Grange. As a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, I have often answered questions and helped prepare search warrants for prosecutors across the state. As an ACA, I have been on call for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and I truly understand the time and dedication this job entails.

I believe standing firm against violent offenders and will continue to seek high sentences for child sexual predators, rapists, and those who have committed violent crime against others. In my experience, these crimes are among the most destructive and detrimental towards families and children. We have obtained 10 life sentences, one 75 year sentence and countless other lengthy prison sentences during my time working in this small community. I have obtained more protective orders in Fayette County for victims of domestic violence than all other attorneys in the area.
