Taking care of and maintaining the safety of the citizens in precinct 1. We are responsible for building and maintaining county roads and bridges within our precinct. As a part of Commissioners Court, the important duties we face are; we adopt the budget, set the tax rate, approve purchases, set salaries, and care for all county buildings and facilities. I find it very important to keep applying for grants to help fund the projects of bettering our county roads. It is important to have a good road crew to help fix any complaints or issues within the precinct.
I have been the Lavaca County Commissioner Precinct 1 for the past 11 years, in addition to having 34 years of experience in public school education. Combined, this is 45 years of being a public servant for a governmental entity. I am honest, hardworking, loyal and passionate about this job and the citizens of Lavaca County. For the past 11 years, I have maintained a tight budget to help keep the tax rate lowered. Every year I attend the required training to better my position as the precinct 1 commissioner. I send my crew to the appropriate training every year as well, to ensure the safety and protocols are adhered to.
Building and paving the roads throughout the county, that will benefit the tax payers whom have to travel these roads, while also maintaining the budget without having to keep raising the tax rate. I will continue to apply for grant funding to help better our county roads. There are many areas in my precinct that flood when we get a heavy rain, that is a major issue.
