As there are many tasks and responsibilities of a county commissioner, my primary focus will be centered around budget management. More specifically, implementing key initiatives to reduce the cost of road construction and repairs throughout Dewitt County with an emphasis on gravel road maintenance and street repair in the town of Westhoff, Texas. Proper road maintenance such as crack sealing and seal coating prevents catastrophic base failures which require full replacement. Unfortunately, some of the roads in the rural sections of Dewitt County have not been properly addressed for over 30 years.
The basic qualifications necessary to run for such an office are being a resident of Precinct 1, never having been convicted of a felony crime, and being a registered voter. Furthermore, my personal qualifications include a dedication and willingness to serve and familiarity with the recordkeeping systems and the road and bridge maintenance software the county currently uses for time management and approvals. In addition, as a certified heavy equipment operator, I am best suited to evaluate the type of equipment the county should purchase to complete projects with quality and efficiency while saving staff hours and ultimately taxpayer dollars. As there are vast number of important issues facing a county commissioner, proper budget management in the most important in Dewitt County Precinct 1. My in to eliminate the wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars on inadequate equipment and unnecessary staff overtime.
With my county road and bridge maintenance experience, I will implement initiatives to better utilize the over $4 million dollar budget and lower our maintenance cost which is currently greater than surrounding counties with similar road damage that is attributed to Eagleford Oil and gas exploration traffic.
