I was elected to Congress in 2022 and chair the Congressional Progressive Caucus, leading the fight against Trump and for working people. I served as an Austin City Council Member and labor organizer.
Right now, I am fighting to stop Trump’s cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, which will devastate our health care system. In the long run, I support a Medicare for All system to ensure that every American has access to high quality healthcare. No family should face bankruptcy from seeking medical care for their kids, and no one should have to choose between groceries and seeing a doctor.
As an elected official, I have never traded stocks or taken donations from corporate PACs. Congress must completely overhaul our campaign finance system and ethics rules. I support a national ban on gerrymandering, a ban on Super PACs, and an end to stock trading by members of Congress.
Trump promised to round up ‘bad guys,’ but instead is attacking immigrants who have done nothing wrong, even arresting U.S. citizens. I have led the charge to hold Trump accountable for these abuses. Congress must pass comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship for our immigrant neighbors and pass bills to rein in Trump’s abuses and keep families together, not rip them apart.
Trump’s actions—from arresting students for writing op-eds to attacking media companies and universities—are a threat to all Americans’ rights. I support legislation to stop these attacks on free speech. Meanwhile, we must strengthen anti-corruption laws to make the government answer to the people, not billionaires. And we must reform the courts so they follow the law, not special interests.
Daughter of immigrants and mother of two. Epidemiologist with public health & tech experience, led HIV programs, supported the Texas COVID rollout, and brings science based, worker focused leadership.
Congress must treat healthcare as essential infrastructure. We should expand prevention and public health, strengthen maternal and reproductive care, lower costs by negotiating drug prices and capping out-of-pocket expenses, protect and expand the ACA, invest in underserved communities, and ensure healthcare decisions remain between patients and providers, not politicians.
Congress must protect democracy by defending voting rights, ensuring free and fair elections, and enforcing the rule of law equally for all. Restoring trust requires transparency, strong ethics rules, campaign finance accountability, protection from political interference, and governing based on facts and truth, not misinformation, corruption, or extremism.
Congress must modernize our immigration system by expanding legal pathways, reducing backlogs, and ensuring timely, humane processing. We must protect asylum rights, end family separation, provide work authorization, invest in border and immigration courts, and focus enforcement on real threats, not families seeking safety, work, and opportunity.
Congress must uphold the Constitution by enforcing oversight, respecting separation of powers, and holding all branches accountable to the rule of law. That includes protecting independent courts, defending inspectors general, rejecting executive overreach, and ensuring transparency so government remains accountable to the people, not to politics or power.
