I have represented hundreds of clients across Texas during my 30+ years in practice, both at the trial court and appellate court levels. I am also Board Cert. in Family Law and an Adjunct Prof of law.
As a Justice on the Court of Appeals, my job is to interpret the law and ensure that the trial court acted appropriately. When elected, I will follow the law 1000% of the time. Neither political pressure nor the interests of campaign donors come into play.
I have, through my 12+ years of service on the Houston Bar Association's Board of Directors helped both raise money for and awareness about the programs offered to those in need of legal services.
Managing the growing caseloads while delivering timely, high-quality justice. I would address it by working efficiently, collaborating with colleagues, writing clear opinions, and using technology and case-management tools to ensure every appeal is decided fairly, promptly, and predictably.
Follow the law - regardless. My job as a Justice on the Court of Appeals will be to rule fairly under the law, not to look for ways to undo laws that may not fit my personal philosophy.

I am uniquely qualified for this job. As a prosecutor, I have handled over 100 cases in the courts of appeals. I understand what the First Court does, and I will be ready to do this job on day one.
Judges and justices must swear an oath to “preserve, protect, and defend” the law. I am prepared to set aside any political pressures and simply do what the law requires.

Living up to an ethical standard higher than the average attorney is something that I am used to. As a prosecutor, I have a duty “not to convict, but to see that justice is done.” I will take my judicial oath as seriously!
Reform of our legal system is usually tasked to the legislature and other policymaking bodies. I defer to them. I will show respect to all litigants.
Decline in the respect for our courts over the last few years—especially in matters of criminal justice. Judges/justices are tasked with applying the law competently. If elected, I will lead by example. I will always follow what the law requires and never impose my own preferences. If all judges/justices behave this way, it will ensure confidence that our courts are places of impartial justice.
Courts are there to apply the law as written. Whether it is the text of a statute or the Constitution, I will look to the written text and give it a fair meaning. A justice may look to history to see how that text has been historically understood. I have written about several constitutional and statutory questions. You may see samples at zachforjustice.com
