City/Town of Residence South Ozone Park
Experience and Qualifications When my family immigrated to Queens from Guyana, I have always tried to give back to the community that raised me. It’s why I chose to raise my family here, send my kids to school here, and start my small business on Lefferts Blvd. I know what it is like to raise a family with prices rising and squeezing too many people out of our neighborhoods. I’ve worked tirelessly to support our community by holding back to school giveaways, Thanksgiving food drives, and the annual Christmas Tree lighting in

1. Declining quality of life 2. The affordability crisis and lack of affordable housing and universal childcare. 3. Decline in public safety.
We need to take bold action against these issues to make New York work for everyone- not the powerful and well connected and for too long, Southeast Queens has been left behind, receiving less resources and poorer services. I will aggressively fight to bring back more resources for District 28 and collaborate with anyone to do so. We also need to tackle the affordability crisis head on by building more affordable housing, extending tax rebates to longtime homeowners and seniors, and investing more in childcare. Rising prices are not the only reason why families are leaving Southeast Queens but people continue to feel unsafe walking on the streets or using public transportation. We need to hire more police officers, work to address the low morale among the force, and address the root causes of crime by fully funding after school programs, parks, libraries and working with our small businesses to create more job opportunities for kids.
I am committed to being one of the most accessible and transparent members of the City Council. I will hold a town hall in every neighborhood in the district within the first 100 days. I also look forward to sitting down with as many of my colleagues as possible to discuss how we can work together to solve problems facing our districts. Finally, I will introduce legislation that will extend property tax rebates to seniors, and longtime homeowners. Southeast Queens has been unfairly taxed, when compared to Brooklyn Heights or the Upper East Side, for decades and we need to deliver real relief to families.
Truly achieving universal Pre-K and 3-K. We have made great strides since introducing it, becoming a model for the nation on how to help working families, but unnecessary budget cuts and mismanagement have devastated the program- placing an undue financial burden on families. City Council needs to restore these cuts through the budget process and work to reallocate seats to neighborhoods that truly need it, like those in Southeast Queens. It is unacceptable that seats in Park Slope and the Lower East Side go unused when families in Southeast Queens are being told there are not enough seats for their children.
Some of our elected officials are too concerned with politics and picking unnecessary fights as opposed to working for the people that elected them. We have seen countless projects that would benefit our community delayed unnecessarily because our leaders are more concerned about the next election, running for higher office, or their donors. Our elected officials need to serve every person in the district and have a presence in every community- not just those that support them. I will be holding a town hall every month to hear directly from the people and am committed to opening an office in both South Jamaica and South Ozone Park/ South Richmond Hill to better serve the people.

Affordable Housing Public Safety and Community Service Education Investment and Employment Opportunity
During my tenure in the City Council, in 2013, I secured $4.4 Million from the city's capital budget, allocating every dollar to education initiative.

In 2016, I initiated a groundbreaking $13 million funds to purchase distress mortgages, allowing residents to renegotiate favorable loan terms and prevent homelessness.

Before my career was derailed by unjust legal accusations that were later overturned and fully exonerated me in 2021, I sponsored 625 pieces of legislature. I am running back to continue the fight for my community.

Establishing community equity and investment zone in the district. What this mean is, I want to make sure that communities gets their fair share of city investment, tax incentives and accelerated development of affordable housing, youth programs, workforce training, small business support, and public safety reform.
It requires City, State and private sector collaboration., long term planing and policy changes and most importantly demands community trust, leadership and infrastructure.
