Yelm Wa.
I find the best way to interact is social media. More people can be reached in a shorter amount of time allowing obtaining the pulse of the community, their needs and wants, reaching a consensus. Facebook, tik tok, communiy sites are all very useful tools to inform, ask suggestions, gain comm-UNITY. Nowadays, people are very busy and really don't have a lot of time. Using social media allows for interaction when convenient.
Plant more trees along with keeping as many trees as we can. Too many times land is clear cut to allow for homes and businesses to be built with little regard to the importance of our trees. Wherever we can plant flowers, any kind of plants and shrubs would greatly add to natures ability to clean the air and increase our all important oxygen levels. Encourage homeowners to place small personal windmills on their homes, thereby eliminating the amount of land needed to supply a city with electricity. It may also save huge amounts of birds currently being killed or maimed by the turning of these huge blades.
I agree with some solar panels being used on personal homes and businesses but not huge swaths of land being used for solar panels. Farming those lands, would be better.
In addition, I believe we can do better as far as waste goes. I remember seeing a video how Sweden & now Japan burn all their waste to a minimal pile of ash and provide energy doing it. Petition our State.
I was elected Precinct Committee Officer in my area. I've held numerous meetings for the community regarding different issues. I was also a Volunteer for Nisqually Land Trust.
State agencies, local governments, and community groups need to work together. State grants should cover building shelters, buying portable facilities, and boosting social services. Volunteer programs and community service can cut costs while building a sense of shared ownership. Letting homeless folks help maintain facilities not only saves money but also gives them purpose and a stronger tie to the community.
By blending shelters into neighborhoods, providing basic sanitation, and treating addiction as a medical condition, this plan tackles urgent needs while aiming for lasting solutions. It’s about dignity, recovery, and self-esteem, giving people the tools to rebuild. Those with addictions should be considered mentally & medically disabled and treated as such in order to provide the best medical care. Social services need to step up and provide these services with the intent to cure not enable.
My role as city councilor representing the people I would ask the community what their vision is and obtain consensus. Personally, I enjoy a city with a character of its own, not a city like "every town USA," where there is nothing special about it and it looks like most anywhere. I see plenty of open space, trees, shrubbery, and flower gardens on most properties and lining the streets, which is great for the environment. Perhaps a car-free center where people can walk around, shop, visit with friends, or sit at a café or restaurant enjoying coffee or a meal, less the traffic. My vision would also include a park area large enough to allow recreation for every member of the community to enjoy.

Town where you live
YELM
With open ears, an open heart, making time for everyone. I am committed to open communication and tackling citizens concerns, I want Yelm citizens to know I hear them, I am here to help, I want them to know I am here to work towards change, with everyone’s needs as top priority.
It is the responsibility of all to leave little to no carbon footprint, we are responsible for tomorrow and leaving a city safe and healthy for future generations to come.
No public service yet.
With the rising cost of living, Yelm should work towards rent control, low income housing, it is our responsibility to help families stay in their home, we should help those that are homeless with goals of finding jobs and secure living. Life is hard, as a community we should come together to find solutions for everyone’s needs.
Yelm has a strong belief in service, I feel keeping the focus on families and doing our best to assist in fighting food insecurity as well as homelessness is a great way to drive change. Growth is going to happen, we need to fight tax hikes, rising cost of rent, putting our children first in education, giving them opportunities for growth, as the youth will be running the city, we need to set the example for responsible governing.
