Recruitment and retention of the highest quality staff should be our first priority as that will help us reach the goal of being the best school to give all students the best education possible.
We must continue to address student mental health through the training of staff and providing additional professional staff like counselors and school psychologists.
The budget issue is huge because of the lack of support from the state. To address this problem we must continue to talk with our state’s elected officials and encourage our district citizens to do the same.
If nothing improves with state funding we will be forced to go to a referendum. If we show the need , I think our district will support a necessary referendum in order to continue to make our district’s education the best. New people will choose to live in the Menomonie district because of our education. Industry and businesses will be attracted. GREAT SCHOOLS ARE THE FOUNDATION OF A COMMUNITY .
I would prioritize supporting educators and addressing student needs.
First, supporting educators is critical. Teachers and staff are at the center of student success, and that includes competitive compensation, manageable workloads, and the resources they need to be effective in the classroom.
Second, I would prioritize resources that directly support students, particularly as student needs continue to grow. This includes academic support, behavioral and mental health resources, and programs that help students succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
Thoughtful budgeting requires balancing many priorities, but keeping students at the center and supporting the people who serve them every day is the best way to ensure strong outcomes.
One of the most important issues facing the district is balancing increasing student needs with limited financial resources.
Schools are being asked to do more than ever, while funding remains constrained. This creates pressure on educators and impacts the district’s ability to provide the level of support students need to succeed.
Addressing this requires thoughtful, transparent leadership. I would focus on listening to educators and staff, using data to understand where support is most needed, and communicating clearly with the community about the district’s challenges and options.
Strong schools require collaboration. By working together as a community and focusing on students and educators, we can make decisions that move the district forward.

I would address it by allowing teachers to teach the truth about morals and character, use loving discipline when necessary. Teach- reading, ie. by phonics method, writing-cursive after learning to print. Arithmetic- back to old math, also teach practical things like making change, balancing check books. Teachers with a moral compass should be able to teach the truth about human sexuality, no immoral sexual sins should be celebrated or tolerated. Chastity before marriage should be taught and faithfulness within marriage. Marriage is a union between one man and one woman for life. The rainbow was placed in the sky as a reminder of the covenant God made with mankind that he would never again destroy the world by a flood.

Amy Riddle-Swanson for Menomonie School Board
The two areas I would prioritize for the next school budget are closing the gap on special education for our most vulnerable students and being transparent about how school vouchers hurt our general budget for public education.
The most important issue I foresee is being able to provide our students with the excellent education they deserve. The Menomonie School District as nearly all school districts in the state of Wisconsin are falling way behind inflation and have been for many years. This has caused us to re-evaluate our programming and cut dollars through attrition and cutting programs such as our French language program. We continually are asked to do more with less and this is a travesty for our students and families in the Menomonie Area School District.
