What is your background and how will it help you serve on the City Council?
Through various parts of my career, I have been a problem solver. That ranges from solving engineering problems to helping residents with property issues.
I have built an experience base in knowing how government works and how to get things done. This is not a job where you just wake up one day and decide you want to be on City Council. It takes studying and research to understand the complexities and determine solutions.
I take an active, hands-on approach by regularly visiting construction sites and monitoring reports. By closely checking the progress, this ensures any issues are addressed promptly.
Sustaining the city's fiscal health is a top priority, allowing for continued investment in critical public services, including Police, Fire, Parks and Recreation, and along with above and below ground infrastructure. I have been committed to disciplined budgetary control and transparency to ensure the public's funds are allocated responsibly and effectively.
Being a fully developed city, our focus is to have redevelopment friendly policies that encourage businesses to locate here in the existing buildings that best serve our residents. There must be a balance between existing homes and businesses and new enterprises. We have made several changes to help the personal service industry locate new businesses to vacant storefronts in St Clair Shores.
In terms of diversifying housing options, no homeowner who has been in their home for decades wants to suddenly see a high rise go up next door to them. Any new development must blend with the neighbors. Any new housing development must follow existing ordinances that protect residential properties and ensures fairness to all.
Currently serving on the St Clair Shores Beautification and Historical Commissions as well as the Animal Ordinance Committee. I am the Vice Chair of both the South Macomb Disposal Authority and Southeast Macomb Sanitary District.
I have been Council Liaison in the past to the St Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade, Animal Care and Welfare, Dog Park and the Senior Advisory Committees. I am also a proud member of the Shorewood Kiwanis.

By November I will have served the residents for 16 years. At the council table, I do my homework and research, prepare for meetings, listen to all viewpoints, and ask questions. I'm not afraid to vote "no" if I think something should be done differently or better. I don't believe good "ends" ever justify faulty "means. Away from the table, I spend much personal time fielding questions and concerns on various Facebook resident groups, working with administration to follow up on issues, and engaging in community service & volunteerism.
Professionally, I am an attorney. I think my legal background has been an asset to me in this position as some of the main responsibilities of council involve approving contracts and passing ordinances.
The primary issue always is passing a balanced budget given financial constraints that meets all of the needs of this City by ensuring adequate funding for all departments, and then living within that budget. We do this through identifying the needs, careful planning and forecasts, working with administration, adhering to the purchasing policies and engaging in competitive bidding to protect taxpayer dollars, and questioning proposed expenditures to ensure we're prioritizing what we need to prioritize.
We also must continue to invest in infrastructure maintenance and improvements, and work to make certain the ongoing projects come in on budget and on time.
We must continue to insist on accountability and transparency for our residents.
From a private commercial development perspective, developments with site plans that are compatible with the surrounding neighborhoods and our current ordinances. We should approve use variances and zoning changes only when they make sense with the master plan and are harmonious with the existing neighborhoods.
We need to continue to support our existing local business community so they continue to expand and thrive in our city. We've seen a lot of nice renovations and updates throughout the years and we need to make sure our City continues to be business-friendly.
From a City perspective, I would like to see a Tot Lot developed. I would also like to continue updates to our Library in addition to the ongoing youth room renovation.
