Hi, I'm Allison Blackmer and currently serve as President for the Village of Harrison. My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Paper Science and an MBA in Business Administration.
I'm also the owner of a small local IT company. I've lived in Harrison since 1986 where my late husband and I raised our 5 kids. I
have a passion for public service and a life-long commitment to the success of Harrison. I offer a proven track record of common sense and honest leadership. You can count on me to uphold the law and do everything possible to make Harrison safe, unified and a great place to live, work and play!
Residents prioritize keeping taxes low, improving roads, halting high-density multi-family apartments and enhancing parks and trails. To address these, I've worked to diversify our tax base to keep the community affordable and attract new businesses. We've updated our 5-year road plan, improved engineering and bidding processes and are updating Harrison's Comprehensive Plan to support responsible smart growth. Additionally, we're improving local parks such as Rennwood Park, Farmers Field and Darboy Community Park. We're also collaborating with neighboring communities to extend the Friendship Trail. My focus will always be on balancing growth while preserving the character that makes Harrison a great place to live.
My local government experience includes Chairman of the Town of Harrison, Supervisor for the Calumet County Board and Chairman of the Calumet County Board.
In January of 2022, I was asked by the Harrison Village Board, to accept the vacant position of President. The Board voted to approve my appointment, and I have served as the Village President for the past 3 years.
Several projects have begun that will provide improved safety and quality of life for Harrison residents. These include the construction of the new Fire Station 70, remodeling of Fire Station 60 and the remodeling of the Public Works garage. During my time as Village President, I have worked to bring in more businesses and diversify the tax base. This strategy is critical for keeping taxes low and make Harrison affordable for residents and attractive for new businesses. To accomplish this, Harrison is building the Crossroads Business Park, the Harrison Commerce Park, and this past year, we welcomed the Arc Data Center.

Community Advocacy: Allow the public to voice concerns about future residential developments the diminishes Harrison’s rural feel versus rubberstamping approvals without public input
Harrison is experiencing too much residential growth that undermines our cherished rural character and contributes to uncontrolled urban sprawl. Our community demands a return to a slower, more sustainable pace of development that preserves open spaces and local traditions. Traffic safety is a critical concern, as even a simple left turn in the Village should not feel like a life-threatening maneuver. I am committed to ensuring that every development decision is made with extensive public input, full transparency, and accountability. Closed sessions and backdoor deals that benefit developers at the expense of residents must come to an end right now.
Village Trustee 2020 to current
Calumet County Supervisor 2020-2024
The planning commission in the village needs to be upgraded with procedures that follow state statues and with highly qualified people so we are not just rubber stamp development without public input. Fire response times needs to be improved. We are planning and I am supporting a new fire station that will improve response times without raising any taxes. Increase shared revenue and fire impact fees raised have provided plenty of funding.
