We should expect all students to adhere to a high-level of standards-based learning. Students who struggle should receive support plans instead of being failed or passed without meeting basic expectations. The district should continue to invest in high quality, research-based reading and math materials. I will also partner with parent and volunteer-led literacy groups to support these goals. In addition, I support expanding career and technical education through partnerships with local colleges and apprenticeship programs so students can explore careers while driving educational engagement.
Not everyone feels safe at school. I will make school safety a top priority by listening to students, staff, and families during quarterly visits to the schools and listening sessions within the community. The board can support student mental health through partnerships with community organizations and promote respect, inclusion, and belonging in every school by focusing on comprehensive cultural training and restorative justice. Also, each school should have 1 full-time counselor, along with hiring and retaining more teachers that represent the diversity of our student population.
I would collaborate with any group looking to increase the supply of affordable housing. Additionally, I would partner with local and state officials to advocate for changes to the state budget formula to increase educational spending on our district and separate out vouchers for charter schools. This will both give the school district additional money to attract quality educators and increase enrollment because more families can afford to live here.
I am concerned that students do not have clear rules for using AI tools like ChatGPT or Grok. Some students may rely too much on AI to do their learning, or misuse it to harm and bully others, such as through fake images. I want to help create a district‑wide AI policy that teaches responsible use, how to check facts, and when AI tools are appropriate. The policy would also address plagiarism and consequences for misuse, helping students use AI safely and responsibly. Additionally, I would look to reduce screen time instruction and ban cell phones during the day.
I was born and raised in the Madison area by two former teachers who taught me to value public education. I graduated from Madison West and have 25-year career in Technology, with an emphasis on analysis, process improvement and leadership. I have been involved in canvassing and volunteering for local nonprofits and political campaigns for the past 15 years. My experience in technology, data analysis, and collaborative leadership, combined with community engagement, have equipped me to understand and respond to the needs of our public schools. I will ensure that students can thrive in college, their communities and their careers. I
am ready to focus on the future of our students as your school board representative.

During my tenure on the MMSD school board we have focused on reducing class size to boost student achievement. Research has shown this is the most direct way to improve student achievement. However, that means we need more good teachers for classrooms. To attract and retain qualified teachers we must improve their pay and working conditions. On the board, I have worked to accomplish both.
Unfortunately, with the world as it is, does anyone truly feel safe? However, we have a duty and moral obligation to make schools a haven for students and staff. Some specific ways we can improve at MMSD include: simplifying the bullying reporting process, adding substitute security assistants to cover when one is out, and rewarding people who model positive behavior. We should also expand our focus on safety and climate to include students, staff, and administration.
We all need to pay attention to student enrollment trends. We must maintain and expand our programs and facilities to ensure all children receive a high-quality education. MMSD must stop the flow of students leaving the district and attract students instead. This can be done by offering additional programming in developing fields such as AI and coding. Also, providing students with the ability to earn an associate degree is something MMSD must do.
Yes, I can make a difference by being a strong advocate for students and staff. I advocate for school safety through additional non-violent crisis intervention training for all staff, not just special education. I will also continue my advocacy for fair compensation for staff by closing salary compression (everyone should be paid a fair and living wage) and fight for the right of all staff to receive yearly cost-of-living increases.
I have served on the MMSD school board for the last nine years. I have visited every school in the district during my time on the board and have made sure to learn about the unique issues each school faces. In my law practice while working in juvenile court, I see the serious problems that our most vulnerable young people face. My experience, both on the board and in my legal practice working with young people, has given me the insight and knowledge to continue being an effective advocate on the MMSD school board.
