Biographical Information

How can your city/town/village develop its appeal as a place to both work and live; to attract more long term residents?

What are your top three priorities for your term as head of the city/town/village board?

How would you develop the relationship between yourself, the municipality, and the municipal department heads?

What current initiatives or policies will you support and sustain?

First is to keep the small town charm and appeal that it brings. Second would be to continue to stretch our limited resources as far as possible to provide the services our community needs. Third would be to look to enhance our community with new business opportunities or other areas of growth.
First is to balance slow, steady growth while maintaining the small town qualities that most people desire. Next would be to work to strengthen relationships with the school district, county, and other neighboring municipalities, as we can all learn from our collective experiences. Last, but not least, would be to work to better engage the community members so that their opinions are heard.
Having already been on the Board of Trustees for 15 years, I have an established relationship with the department heads. As a board role is part time, it is important to make the most of the time with the department heads when we have it, and to make sure that they understand that they can reach out at any time if they need support.
West Salem tries to maintain very measured, slow and steady growth, and I would expect that to continue. We need to look to maintain the infrastructure we have, and try to do our very best to stretch the tax dollars as far as possible to provide the services needed to support our community.
