La Crosse County Sheriff

The La Crosse Sheriff s Office is committed to improving the quality of life for our citizens by working with them to make our community a safe place to live. We will do this by fairly enforcing our laws and by being attentive to the needs of the community. This is an elective position with duties as prescribed under Wisconsin State Statutes.  This office entails considerable responsibility in the maintenance of the peace and enforcement of laws within the County and has complete responsibility of the jail.  The position is responsible to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of Sheriff s Office, including the direction of a staff made up of deputy sheriffs (road patrol and investigators), jailers and office personnel.  This officer operates with little supervision, and actions are governed primarily by laws, which establish the limits of authority of the position and define duties fairly specifically.  Some direction is received through the County Board.
