The situation Dane County is in is not sustainable and addressing the budget deficit is something that needs to be solved by collaboration and compromise between the Dane County Board, the Executive, county departments, community members, and organizational service providers. Every line item should be evaluated and any burdens must be shared across departments to ensure we maintain the services and programs that the Dane County community collectively values.
Dane County consistently invests budget dollars for housing in innovative ways. Preserving affordable housing is smart and cost effective. Dane County just made the first round of awards in a unique fund to rehabilitate existing affordable housing. The County continues to be a good partner in addressing housing needs as our communities continue to grow at a rapid rate. We fund regional housing coordination and new affordable housing projects every year. Additionally, Dane County has consistently invested in homelessness prevention and shelter operations as well as crisis stabilization efforts.
The top priorities I have heard from District 3 constituents are addressing the budget deficit while maintaining services, providing safe, independent detox that does not overwhelm our hospital systems, and ensuring the federal government does not invade and terrorize our community and neighbors. The budget deficit will require collaboration. As a member of the Health & Human Needs Committee, we are working on a solution for detox, and I am committed to protecting our neighbors. I am in communication with members of the public, officials, and organizations who can aid in those efforts.
I am an authentic, agile, and engaged leader and collaborator with diverse experience in the non-profit and government sectors. As a creative problem solver who thrives among disciplines, I am always willing to explore new and innovative ideas and have conversations to develop solutions and deliver values based outcomes. I have proudly represented District 3 since 2018 and will continue to do so moving forward.
