Just like our household budgets, we need to ensure we are getting the most for every dollar. I believe the County needs to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and to search for duplicated efforts in service delivery. Services that are not hitting the mark should be refined or eliminated to chip away at the deficit and prevent effective programs from being cut. Our focus needs to be on ending the rollover effect of the deficit so that we can begin future budget processes by responding to community needs rather than starting with a butcher knife.
Our regional housing strategy is a great guiding document, but it is just one tool in the toolbox. We can increase the supply and quality of affordable housing by investing in the rehabilitation of vacant properties and by supporting the affordable housing fund. We can fine tune our human services delivery by reducing redundant programs and investing in the ones that have demonstrated a pathway to permanent housing for members of our unhoused community.
Affordability and financial stewardship is what I am hearing from constituents. We need to ensure that the county is mindful of our role in affordability by limiting increases on our line on the property tax bill. This means making the tough decisions and choosing what we can and cannot fund. Secondly, I know public health and safety are a big area of concern. 100% of my district is patrolled by the Dane County Sheriff. I will fight to ensure that we fund the DCSO and ensure that a deputy is able to respond both as law enforcement, and as a human services provider in our corner of the county.
I have a bachelor's degree in History with a minor in Political Science from Edgewood University in Madison. I work in civil service/customer service for my day job. I began my elected public service in the Village of Dane as a Village Board Trustee from 2018-2022, and have served as Village President from 2022-present. I was first elected to the Dane County Board in 2024, and this term I have served on the Dane County Advisory Committee on Data Centers (Vice Chair), Broadband Task Force (Vice Chair), EMS Commission, Executive Committee, Park Commission, and Zoning & Land Regulation Committee.
