We should encourage departments to follow the example of our Sheriff who found close to $90,000 in savings for Dane County tax payers by reviewing contracts to find better deals and discounts for both field and jail radio components. We should support the County Executive’s creation of a work group to examine all county-owned land and facilities, and then make recommendations for consolidation, renovation or divestment, and to improve efficiency
We should also support her recent move to initiate independent, third-party forensic audits of government nonprofit contractors.
I'm especially concerned that seniors and low-income folks will be able to find housing they can afford. Although we’ve included capital money for affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity, a County Affordable Housing Development Fund, CDBG funds, and the Madison Community Land Trust, developers have requested more assistance. That indicates there’s much to do to keep monthly rents low for working families, single parents, those who are disabled, veterans, and others struggling to make ends meet. We must continue our efforts in these areas.
Maintaining and improving the quality of ground and surface waters while promoting the viability of farming. Initiatives to help farmers reduce livestock operation runoff, along with stream buffer strips, cover crops and no-till incentives can reduce soil, phosphorous, and nitrogen flowing into our lakes and streams, and at the same time improve farm productivity.
I want us to continue providing mental health and substance abuse services to address opioid addiction, suicide, and crime. I will continue to advocate for local road repairs, EMS operations and better broadband.
My time in public service includes 24 years as the Town of Perry Chair and 20 years of representing District 30 on the County Environment, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Land Conservation Committees, and the Area Agency on Aging. This depth of experience has given me a wide-ranging understanding of my constituents’ needs and the challenges facing Dane County. My years of experience would be valuable on the next County Board. I view helping my constituents get their questions and concerns addressed by County Departments, and helping them solve problems they might have, as an integral part of my work. I have a clear record of promoting the slow and planned growth of Dane County so that it may continue to be the great place it is.

The county should address the significant budget deficit by taking a different approach to purchasing additional land. When the county purchases farmland to turn into a park or to conserve the land for nature, they have a documented history of paying big money for land which leads to needing a larger budget in order to maintain the land/parks. Because the county has bought out the farmer, it has also reduced its tax base from no longer being able to collect property tax from the farmland.
Offer options or incentives to developers to help make it more appealing to finance and build the types of structures required for affordable housing. Address the needs of the unhoused by using some of the millions being spent on farmland and then instead allocate funds for assistance and housing for the unhoused.
The top priority for my constituents is to demand open and transparent government, to vote against bureaucratic growth, to empower individuals over government, and to oppose tax increases.
Specific life experiences that have prepared me to effectively address my priorities have come from many life experiences. 1) Live in Dane County for approximately 36 years of life. 2)Started a residential construction business in 2007. The skill sets of being able to manage people, to run a company, and to manage budget/cashflow are very valuable for addressing my priorities. 3)Applied for and then hired at Verona Fire Department as a paid-on-call firefighter. Completed one class at a time working nights and weekends in order become a certified firefighter and apparatus engineer. 4) Completed schooling in 2020 to become a WI Certified Fire Investigator and currently serve as a fire investigator within Dane County.
