We must work collaboratively with county employees, employee group representatives, our nonprofit partners, and county residents to find solutions. The county provides critical, life-saving services through county employees and through our purchase of service agencies so the needs of both groups must be balanced in our approach to the deficit. Given ongoing chaos and dereliction of leadership at the federal level, we also have to ensure the county has the capacity to adjust to federal attacks and cuts.
Housing is a human right, and everyone should have access to safe, healthy housing. In past budgets, the county was able to make important investments to coordinate housing efforts across the county and address homelessness across the county. In District 24, issues like zoning and planning are handled at the city level so the county’s primary role in my area is in addressing the needs of unhoused people. I have continued to support critical nonprofit partners such as Solace Friends in our district that serves unhoused individuals with dignity and care.
My priorities continue to include supporting our most vulnerable neighbors, protecting our environment and preventing pollution, and ensuring that county government can continue to provide the services we all depend upon. As our most vulnerable neighbors are under attack by the federal government, I believe that my constituents would like to see the county find new ways to stand up for these individuals. In the last budget, for example, we restored funding to the immigration affairs social worker position. We must continue to defend the county's residents from federal attacks and unfunding.
I moved to Dane County in 2010 to attend UW-Madison and graduated with a Bachelors degree in History in 2013. I then attended the Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis school at UW-Madison and graduated with my Masters degree in 2015. Since graduating, I have worked in both the private sector and public sector but have always sought a career in public service. I previously served as Chief of Staff to then-State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski before joining Senator Patty Schachtner's team as Communications Director. I have spent the last five years serving as the Director of Public Affairs at the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance. I have also previously served on the Sustainability Committee for the City of Monona.
