The county should address the significant budget deficit by identifying the cause, protecting essential services, and using a mix of targeted spending cuts, efficiency improvements, and limited short-term measures to stabilize finances. Transparency and long-term financial planning are essential to prevent this in the future.
I believe increasing affordable housing and reducing homelessness begins with encouraging developers to build affordable units, converting unused buildings into housing, and lowering construction costs through faster permitting. Expanding supportive housing and rehousing programs, along with encouraging partnerships between the public and private sectors, would improve housing quality and help people find stable homes.
Constituents’ top priorities are affordable housing, lower property taxes, and clean parks and water, all through an equity and inclusion lens. The county can ensure housing opportunities and tax relief reach underserved communities, invest in parks and water systems that benefit all neighborhoods, and include diverse voices in planning and decision-making to promote fairness and access for everyone.
