The district can continue focusing on the ‘why’ for students so they understand what their schooling can help them achieve.
Transparency is the best remedy to any group feeling unsafe. That applies to being transparent about our values and transparent about our processes.
There are always financial realities that will drive what programs we as a district can support. I think a key step we can take as a board is helping people in our district understand how our funding works and what they can do (either petitioning our state legislature or supporting referendums) to help the district.
I think in the near future that the school board needs to lean into the community to help with funding concerns. The Oregon community deeply cares and I think we need to help the whole community understand exactly how some of the complicated details work.
Professionally, I’ve supported healthcare organizations around the country in evaluating policy, making long term decisions, and implementing policy recommendations. The healthcare and education spaces have more overlaps and this means I’ve already gotten a lot of experience in similar work to what the school board does.
