We must exhaust every effort to reduce costs and maximize outside revenues. Achieve feasible efficiencies that could include consolidation of functions and shared service agreements, increased collaboration, and a flatter organizational hierarchy. Maximize outside revenues such as grants and state funding. Explore and implement alternative funding models where feasible (e.g., issue social impact bonds). If there are reductions of non-mandated services, ensure we’re not being penny wise, pound foolish by eliminating services that prevent acute needs that are more expensive to address.
We collaborated with communities across Dane County to create the Regional Housing Strategy. We’re now implementing strategies to assist communities in updating zoning codes to fill the missing middle (housing between 2 and 20 units) through infill & planned development areas. Assist communities in creating symbiosis with the Affordable Housing Development Fund. Expand partnerships, like with the Madison Area Community Land Trust, to promote acquisition, construction, &rehabilitation of properties for permanent, affordable home ownership. Continued partnership with Madison on shelter projects.
Constituents value protecting cultural and natural resources while mitigating the impacts of climate change. I will continue our work to conserve open spaces and build people’s relationship with those natural areas through accessibility enhancements & expansion of trails, like the second phase of the Lower Yahara River Trail. The State needs to reverse divestment in local gov’t that’s driving property taxes up. We will continue to draw people to enjoy activities in Dane County, generating economic activity that generates outside revenue, which will reduce pressure on property taxpayers.
During the 2008 financial crisis, collaboration between leadership and employees solved one of the toughest challenges. We implemented creative strategies that protected the community. Today, I am bringing that experience to the table. We must be realistic: ensuring the continuity of essential services isn't a quick fix—it’s a multi-year process requiring steady, proven leaders

The development of hyperscale data centers has torn communities apart in WI. To prevent that here, I created the Advisory Committee on Data Centers to impartially & transparently examine related issues like water impacts and energy use, and to empower communities to make informed decisions when considering whether to accommodate hyperscale data center development.
